Anderson, Ind. - I Power Energy Systems announced today the delivery of their first 20kW biogas fueled cogeneration system. This compact unit targets applications in the areas of small to medium size farms and food store waste digester systems that produce bio gas. The unit is fitted with the features common to I Power's larger 65 to 365kW cogeneration equipment and include, grid-parallel operation with integrated synchronization, grid-isolated with optional "black-start" capability, grid-parallel with stand by capability, grid-parallel with "load or fuel following" capability, and multiple unit installation with "autosequencing" load following. These small units are available in both skid mounted and all weather enclosure configurations and in electric only versions at the customers' request.
This first unit has gone to a food store waste digester developer and a second unit is being shipped to an animal waste digester developer both in the Northeast.
Terry Pahls, I Power's President noted that "We have seen a growth in requests for biogas units that are smaller than what have been our smallest units at 65kW. The question is often raised about the perceived higher cost per kilowatt that is associated with smaller equipment, but in I Power's case we were able to make good use of our extensive experience with our other fielded bio gas products to keep our engineering cost down and utilize our highly developed lean manufacturing process to manage cost to a very competitive level." He went on to say, "These smaller units uniquely suited to the small farms and readily adaptable to a range of applications where combined heat and power energy is needed since the units can operate on bio gas, natural gas or any number of liquefied petroleum gasses and they incorporate the durability technology we have developed for the engines in our cogeneration units."
I Power will market and support these smaller units through the strong distributor and Energy Service Company base that they have developed in the U.S., U.K., Korea and South America over the past few years and also through their associate contractor relationships with the leading digester designers and developers in the U.S. Interested parties are encouraged to contact I Power directly for additional information.
